Over the course of the film, some startling statistics are thrown at us: one-third of processed food is never eaten, and 90% of wasted food (U.S.) ends up in landfills at a cost of 1 trillion dollars and elevated methane levels. 10 million tons of produce go unharvested each year, "There is a surprising amount of waste created on the farm level," says Eve Turow Paul. WASTED, reported by Dr Norman Swan and presented by Kerry O'Brien, goes to air on Monday 28th of September at 8.30pm. I took WAY more notes than I’ve shared here. He clearly worked out the statistics of the food being wasted and the best ways one can avoid this. "I don't like the idea of being an advocate," he says at the beginning of the film.
